‘Rape’ complainant missing for a month

FAISALABAD: Iqbal Town police could not find a clue to a woman who lodged a complaint with the Punjab IG office, Lahore, over a month ago, accusing a DSP of rape.

In her application, the resident of Chak 62-JB alleged that the DSP had been raping her for the last four months. The woman said the suspect had threatened to kill her father and brother in an encounter if she talked to anyone about the issue.

In her complaint, she warned of committing suicide if justice was not done to her.

A police officer said the IG had forwarded the application for a probe into the issue. He said police had made announcements through mosques of the village but could not find a clue to the complainant.

Iqbal Town SP Baka Muhammad, who is probing the issue, told Dawn that he had failed to trace the whereabouts of the woman even after a month. The SP said a local lumberdar had also been contacted who denied having any kind of information about the woman.

He said the inquiry was pending and would be sent back if the girl didn’t record her statement.

The DSP claimed that a special branch official had already probed the issue and found it baseless.

“The issue is four to five months old and the file has been closed.”
